1 Before You Start

▼

Make sure you have everything ready before beginning calibration. This only takes a few minutes when you're prepared.

⚠️
Important: Always connect the load bar cables to the indicator before you power on. If you power on first, the display may not read zero — press and hold ZERO for 2 seconds to fix this.

What you need:

Item Why
AGU9i Indicator (charged or plugged in) Battery lasts ~13 hours; charge with the included 12V adapter
Load bars connected and in position Cables plug into the two outer ports on the bottom of the indicator
Known test weight(s) You'll need a weight with a known value to calibrate against
Stable, level surface for load bars Uneven ground causes inaccurate readings
💡
Tip: After plugging in load bar cables, align the protrusion on the plug with the groove in the socket, push in, then rotate clockwise to lock. When disconnecting, hold the back plug — never pull on the blue wire.

2 Know Your Buttons

▼

The AGU9i has seven buttons along the front. Here's what each one does during calibration:

Button Label What It Does in Calibration
ON Green power Powers on the indicator (hold ZERO first for calibration mode)
OFF Red power Powers off / exits current menu
REC Print / Date Records weight; long-press to set the clock
ENTER Menu Confirms your selection and moves to the next setting
M+ → Shift Moves the cursor to the next digit when editing a number
ANI ↑ Animal / Up Increases a value or scrolls up through options
ZERO ↓ Zero / Down Decreases a value, scrolls down, or re-zeros the scale
ℹ️
Display indicators: During calibration you'll see CAL lit on screen. The ZERO light means the scale is at zero. The Stable arrow (▼) means the reading is steady.

3 Enter Calibration Mode

▼

This is the same first step for all calibration tasks — parameters, full calibration, and zero calibration all begin here.

With the indicator OFF, press and hold the ZERO button.

While still holding ZERO, press the ON button.

The display will count through numbers (000000 to 999999) during self-test, then show 0.

The screen briefly shows the version number (e.g. UE-2.01), then settles to zero.

You are now in calibration mode with access to parameter settings and weighing calibration.

💡
Shortcut: If you want to skip the self-test countdown, press ENTER during the count. The display will flash ------ and then show 0.

4 Set Parameters (If Needed)

▼

After entering calibration mode, press ENTER to see CAL SP. Press ENTER again to see -SEt-, then press ENTER once more to enter parameter settings.

ℹ️
Most operators can skip this section. Parameters are set at the factory. Only change them if you're setting up a new scale for the first time, or if instructed by a technician.

The key parameters you might adjust:

Setting What It Controls Factory Default
dd (interval mode) Single or double interval: n = single, y = double n
d (scale interval) Smallest weight increment shown (e.g. 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2, 5 kg) 0.01
FS (max weight) Maximum weight your scale can read 150.00
FLt (filter) Stability filter: 0 = fast but jumpy, 2 = slow but stable 2
Unit Weight unit: kg, lb, g, ton, oz kg
G (gravity) Local gravity acceleration 9.7940

To change any value: use M+ → to move between digits, then ANI ↑ or ZERO ↓ to adjust. Press ENTER to confirm and move to the next setting.

⚠️
FLt (Filter) tip for livestock: Set FLt = 2 for livestock weighing. This slows the response slightly but gives much more stable readings when animals are moving.

5 Full Weighing Calibration

▼

This is the main calibration process. You'll tell the indicator what zero looks like (empty scale) and what a known weight looks like. Do this whenever you set up a new scale or if weights seem inaccurate.

⚠️
Make sure the scale platform is completely empty before starting Step 1. Any weight on the platform during zero calibration will cause all future readings to be wrong.

Enter calibration mode (hold ZERO, press ON — see Section 3).

Press ENTER. The display shows:

CAL SP

Press M+ → to enter zero calibration.

CAL 00

The indicator is reading the empty scale. Keep it completely clear.

Press ENTER to confirm zero. Display shows:

CAL FS

This means it's ready for you to enter the full-scale (known) weight.

Place your known test weight on the scale.

Press M+ → to see the weight value. The display shows the max weight (e.g. 150.00).

If your test weight is not the full capacity, use M+ to move digits and ANI ↑ / ZERO ↓ to enter the actual weight value of your test weight.

Press ENTER to confirm. The display will show:

------

Wait a few seconds. The indicator is processing the calibration. When complete, it will display the weight value (e.g. 150.00).

✓ Calibration is complete! The scale returns to normal weighing mode.

💡
Best practice: After calibration, remove the test weight and confirm the display returns to 0.0 (or very close). Then place the weight back on to check it reads correctly. If it's off, repeat the process.

6 Half-Range Correction

▼

Use this when you want to fine-tune accuracy at a specific weight point (usually the midpoint of your scale range). This is useful if animals you weigh are typically within a certain range.

From the CAL SP screen, press ANI ↑ instead of M+.

CAL HS

This puts you into half-range correction mode.

Press M+ →. The display shows the half-range value (e.g. 75.00).

Place your half-range test weight on the scale. If the weight differs from what's shown, edit the value using M+, ANI, and ZERO.

Press ENTER to confirm.

------

Wait a few seconds. When complete, the corrected value will display (e.g. 75.00).

✓ Half-range correction complete.

7 Individual Zero Calibration

▼

Do this if you've just replaced the load bars or weighing platform. It resets what the indicator considers "zero" without redoing the full calibration.

⚠️
Ensure the scale platform is completely empty and stable before performing zero calibration.

Enter calibration mode (hold ZERO + press ON).

Press ENTER → display shows CAL SP.

Press ANI ↑ to navigate to:

CAL HS

Press M+ →. Enter the weight value if needed, then press ENTER.

The display shows ------, then the corrected value. The zero point has been recalibrated.

✓ Zero calibration complete.

8 First-Time Setup (Daily Use Settings)

▼

After calibration is done, set up the indicator for your daily weighing. This includes choosing the animal type and batch number.

Choose Your Animal Type

In normal weighing mode, press the ANI button. The display shows:

Fn S

Press ANI ↑ or ZERO ↓ to scroll through options:

Code Animal Type Avg Weigh Time
S Sheep / small-medium animals ~3 seconds
C Cattle / large animals ~5 seconds
g Group weighing ~7 seconds
U User custom (set your own time, 0–9 sec) You choose
n Non-animal (static weighing) Instant when stable

Press ENTER to confirm. The display then asks for a batch number (e.g. S 001A).

Use ANI ↑ to change the number. Press ENTER to confirm.

Next, the display shows L (low weight limit) and H (high weight limit) for the check-weigh alarm.

Set your desired range using M+ and ANI ↑ / ZERO ↓, or set L to 000000 and H to 900000 to disable the alarm.

Press ENTER to save. Display returns to 0.0 — you're ready to weigh!

💡
Switching units: Long-press the ANI button for about 3 seconds to switch between kg and lb.

Setting the Clock

Long-press REC until you hear a beep. The time display will appear. Use M+ to shift between digits, and ANI ↑ / ZERO ↓ to change values. Press ENTER to save.

9 Daily Weighing Checklist

▼

Connect load bar cables to the indicator (both outer ports).

Press the green ON button. Wait for self-test to finish. The display should read 0.0.

Check zero. If the reading isn't exactly 0.0 with an empty platform, hold ZERO for 2+ seconds to re-zero.

Press ANI to select your animal type. It will remember the last batch settings.

If continuing the same batch, just press M+ → to keep going. For a new batch, set a new number.

Start weighing! The indicator will automatically lock the weight when the animal settles (the Stable arrow lights up). The weight is held on screen.

To re-weigh an animal: Press the ANI button 5 times quickly, or long-press ANI.

When done, press the red OFF button. Cover all port caps tightly to keep out dust and sand.

⚠️
Battery: When the battery icon starts flashing, charge the indicator before your next session. It takes a full charge to get ~13 hours of use.

10 Troubleshooting

▼
Problem What to Do
Display doesn't show 0.0 on startup Check load bar cables are firmly connected. Hold ZERO for 2+ seconds to re-zero. If it persists, recalibrate (Section 5).
Weight readings seem wrong Place a known weight on the scale. If the reading is off, perform a full calibration (Section 5). Make sure the platform is level.
Readings are jumpy / unstable Increase the filter parameter (FLt) to 2 via parameter settings (Section 4). Also check the platform is on firm, level ground.
Can't enter calibration mode Make sure you hold ZERO before pressing ON. The indicator must be fully off first. Also check that the JP1 jumper is on the EN side of the PCB (technician step).
Display shows random characters Turn off, wait 5 seconds, turn back on. If it continues, try restoring factory settings: enter calibration mode, press ENTER through CAL SP, then -SEt-, then -A -d-, then FACt, and press M+ to restore.
Battery draining fast Turn off the indicator between sessions. The built-in battery is 6V 4AH. If battery life drops significantly, contact AgriEID for a replacement.
Animal weight not locking Check your animal type setting (S/C/g/U). Cattle mode (C) takes ~5 seconds to lock. If the animal is very active, try Group mode (g) for a longer averaging window.
ℹ️
Factory Reset: If all else fails, you can restore factory defaults. Enter calibration mode, press ENTER until you see FACt, then press M+. Factory defaults: max weight 150.00 kg, interval 0.01, filter 2, unit kg. You will need to recalibrate after a factory reset.
